What is Shame, Really?

Psychologist and researcher Brené Brown defines shame as:

“The intensely painful feeling or experience of believing we are flawed and therefore unworthy of love and belonging.”

Shame isn’t just guilt about what you’ve done.
It’s the deep fear that who you are is wrong, broken, or not enough.

Over time, shame becomes a lens through which we view ourselves and our lives. It shows up as:

  • Self-doubt or self-hatred

  • Feeling unworthy of love or support

  • Struggling to set boundaries or speak up

  • Perfectionism, people-pleasing, or hiding

  • Emotional numbness or overreactivity

  • Isolation — even when surrounded by others

But here's the good news: shame grows in silence, and it heals in safe connection.

Overcoming Shame is a 6-month group coaching journey designed to help you:

About Jerry Henderson
